First Time Experiences

First impressions are important when meeting people. They're also important when learning or evaluating technology. Bad documentation can make a good tool seem unusable. A toxic community can turn away great developers who want to contribute. Teachers can make things hard, boring, or worthless. A great first time experience with technology will have you sharing and recommending it to others.

Some of my classes are intended as first time experiences. They are friendly introductions with minimal complications and careful explanations for beginners. These lay the fundamentals needed to get a project done, but there is so much more to learn.

Most web technology is designed with an easy to understand interface that lets you set it up without understanding exactly how it works. We rely on this to get anything done, since the platforms under our sites incorporate dozens of tools and technologies.

Anyway, if you have any feedback that could help me provide a better first time experience in my classes, please let me know!
