Who I want to teach

I started this project because I enjoy my work and I think it's something other people should get into. I have learned a lot in 10 years of designing and building technology and I can help you get up to speed quickly and take on challenging and rewarding work.

I am looking for people who are dedicated to their passion and want help to do it better. Whether you are great with technology and looking for a broader way to apply it, or you have other design or business skills and need to get a handle on the solutions, you should be serious about putting in the effort to get there. We will learn about the opportunities in the industry to help you understand what you're looking for and what it takes to get there. By taking a more direct path to the career you want, you can build up your portfolio and experience sooner. I can help you network and promote yourself in ways that work for you. This could mean that you write a weekly blog post to talk about what you know, a big lift if you're not used to that kind of writing but the skill will build up quickly!

I attribute a lot of my success to being very curious about how problems can be solved. I'm excited by the work I do because it's a chance to explore things from every angle to figure out the best solution. You will need to be able to be self motivated to find solutions to the problems you encounter. I'm here to help, but I'd rather show you how to confront these problems and give you the confidence to get through them and deliver results to clients.

When you get the basics down - how to set up your development environment, how to host and deploy code, how to design and architect for simple problems - you are ready to work on a real project. I to support you through the hardest part of your career which is landing your first opportunity and getting traction in your career. With a good start, people come looking for you to get more of your work.

I'm looking for people who do good work that I can recommend when people ask me for a referral. There's a lot of work available and they are happy to hire a new developer if they know they are capable of doing the work. Small business, non-profit and community projects are great for building experience and a junior developer is all they can afford.
